BAFTA has revealed its 2026 Breakthrough U.K. cohort, naming 21 emerging creatives across the film, television, and games sectors for its annual talent development initiative. The program, which is currently in its 13th year of operation, continues to serve as a key platform for recognizing rising talent within the screen industries.

The initiative offers participants comprehensive support, including year-round career development, mentorship, networking opportunities, and full membership to BAFTA. This structure is designed to help early-career professionals build the connections and skills necessary for long-term success in their respective fields.

Among the selected actors for the 2026 cohort are Ella Bruccoleri, known for her role in The Other Bennet Sister, Izuka Hoyle from the series Prisoner, and Sophie Stone, who appeared in Falling. The group also features filmmaker Myrid Carten, whose documentary A Want in Her has received recognition on the festival circuit.

In the television sector, the cohort includes Yassmin Abdel-Magied, a writer for the long-running soap opera Emmerdale, as well as Imran Perretta, the director of the film Ish. Louis Paxton, who wrote and directed The Incomer, has also been named as part of the group.

The program extends its recognition to the documentary and unscripted television categories by selecting Chris Lynch, the presenter and producer of In the Driving Seat, and Runako Celina, who serves as a producer and reporter on Death in Dubai.

Five creatives working in the games industry have also been chosen for the cohort. This group includes Eloise Singer, the writer and director of The Pirate Queen: No Safe Waters, and Husban Siddiqi, the game director and developer of Rogue Eclipse. Kate Killick, the creative director of Pieced Together, is another notable selection in this sector.

Jane Millichip, the CEO of BAFTA, described the program as a hugely impactful initiative in a statement. She noted that it champions talented practitioners from all three screen sectors and is specifically designed to provide the support and connections needed to build lasting careers.

The program boasts a strong track record, with alumni that include prominent figures such as Florence Pugh, Tom Holland, Jessie Buckley, Josh O'Connor, Bella Ramsey, Paapa Essiedu, and Letitia Wright. Since its launch, more than 330 creatives have participated globally, collectively earning over 200 BAFTA nominations and more than 80 wins.

Netflix has returned as the official supporter of the program for the seventh consecutive year. This partnership is part of the streamer's Generation N initiative, which aims to develop emerging and mid-career talent in the U.K. Anne Mensah, Netflix's vice president of U.K. content, expressed pride in backing the program, calling the newly announced group an incredibly exciting range of names.

BAFTA North America is expected to announce its U.S. Breakthrough cohort later in November, continuing the global expansion of the talent development effort.
