Brit Prince, a 5-foot-11 guard for Nebraska, was placed on the Naismith Trophy Women's College Player of the Year Watch List Top 50 on Thursday. The selection marks her third season with the Huskers and solidifies her status as a national contender. Prince is the first five-star recruit in the program's history, a designation that has existed for female athletes for two decades.
During her sophomore year, Prince led the team in scoring with 17.9 points per game, assists with 4.4 per game, and steals with 1.5 per game. She recorded two games with 30 points and nine games with at least 20 points. Her shooting efficiency stood out as one of only two players in the country to achieve a 50-40-90 split. She shot 53.5% from the field, 45.7% from three-point range, and 91.2% from the free-throw line.
Prince set a school record by making 56 consecutive free throws. This streak included her first 54 attempts in Big Ten play. She helped lead Nebraska to its third straight NCAA tournament appearance. In the postseason, she averaged 24.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and two blocks over two games. She scored 27 points against No. 21 Baylor, a total that ranks as the second highest in program history for tournament play.
Prince has maintained her form in early 2026 exhibition games. In a closed scrimmage at Kansas State, she scored 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting while adding six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. In a televised exhibition against Wayne State, she finished with 15 points, three rebounds, four assists, and three steals. She played 26 minutes, a team high, and made four of her four free-throw attempts.
Nebraska opens its season on Monday, November 2, at noon central at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The Huskers will face San Jose State following the Sizemore Sportsmanship Pep Rally. The game will air on Nebraska Public Media and BTN+. Prince joins a short list of Huskers to receive Naismith Watch List honors. Alexis Markowski was named three times between 2022 and 2025, while Jaz Shelley was selected ahead of the 2022-23 season. Jordan Hooper and Lindsay Moore were both named before the 2012-13 season.
No Nebraska player has won the Naismith Trophy, which is awarded to the best male and female college basketball player. The award expanded to include women in 1983. The watch list will narrow to 30 candidates in February. Four national finalists will be selected in March, and the winner will be announced during the Final Four weekend. Head coaches, administrators, and journalists account for 75% of the vote, while fans provide the remaining 25%.
