Clouds are thickening over the Gulf Coast as a new weather system approaches.

Forecasters at WALA-TV predict that the region will receive between 1 and 3 inches of rainfall over the next seven days. This total combines showers expected on the weekend with a stronger storm system arriving on Wednesday. The precipitation aims to replenish soil moisture that has remained low since Hurricane Isaias struck the area around October 9.

Rain is expected to begin gradually this weekend. Widely scattered showers are possible on Saturday afternoon, continuing into the evening for those out trick-or-treating. Some rumbles of thunder may accompany these Saturday storms, but widespread severe weather is not expected. Temperatures are trending slightly above normal. By late Saturday night and into Sunday, rain chances increase to 60%. Sunday marks the highest probability for precipitation during the weekend event. Rainfall amounts are forecast to be light to moderate. Thunder may occur again on Sunday, but severe weather remains unlikely.

A dry period follows the weekend rain. The Gulf Coast should see dry conditions on Monday. On Election Day Tuesday, showers will be very isolated. Rain chances stand at only 20%, offering good conditions for voters heading to the polls.

A second major rain event is scheduled for Wednesday. A significant storm system will bring thunderstorms to the area. Forecasters note that while thunderstorms are expected, widespread severe weather is not anticipated at this time. The team will continue to monitor the system as it approaches.

The upcoming rain addresses a specific gap in local weather history. The region has not seen substantial rain in approximately three weeks. This period of precipitation will serve as the first significant opportunity to catch up on the existing rain deficit. Temperatures will remain mild and slightly above normal throughout this forecast period, despite the active rain events.

The seven-day outlook features these two distinct rain events separated by a dry break on Monday and Tuesday. The combined rainfall from Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday will determine the final total for the week. Local meteorologists advise residents to check for updates as the Wednesday system develops.
