Central Florida lost a familiar face this month when Chad Habig, 37, died in a vehicle incident in Winter Park on October 6.

Habig had lived in downtown Sanford for several years, building connections that extended into the neighboring Lake Mary area. Friends described him as a dedicated son, brother, and friend who consistently offered practical help to those around him. He was particularly active in the golf industry and often played rounds of the game.

The community is gathering to honor his memory with a specific plan for charitable giving. At the request of his parents, all proceeds and donations from the upcoming event will go to Legacy Youth Sports.

Habig enjoyed a full social life centered on outdoor activities and major sports leagues. He was a regular fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia 76ers. Weekends often involved kayaking or trips to the beach.

A celebration of life will take place on November 7 at Throwbacks, located at 418 S. Sanford Avenue in historic downtown Sanford. The event runs from 3:00 p.m. to approximately 8:00 p.m. and includes a benefit poker tournament, a raffle, and a lantern release.

Local organizations have donated items for the raffle. Contributors include the Orlando Magic, Orlando City Soccer, and The Ritz Theatre.
