West Indies defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets in the first Test in Mirpur on Saturday to take a one-game lead in the two-match series.

The visitors chased down a target of 170 in 35.1 overs on the fourth day. Brandon King anchored the effort with a career-best 81 not out, striking 10 fours and a six in 115 balls. John Campbell added 49 off 55 balls, including six fours and a six, before being bowled by Shoriful Islam.

Bangladesh had resumed the final day of the match at 79 for 6, holding a 106-run advantage. Their position collapsed when Jaker Ali edged Jomel Warrican to the keeper. Roston Chase took the catch to remove the batsman, who had scored 22 runs.

Nayeem Hasan reached 52 off 91 balls, including four boundaries, in his first Test half-century. He was dismissed when he attempted to hit Chase over long-on and was caught by Joshua Bishop. Shoriful Islam finished not out on seven as the hosts were bowled out for 142 in 48.4 overs.

Warrican, named player of the match, took four wickets for 63 runs. Chase claimed five wickets for 36 runs, marking his fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. The captain said the team remained focused on winning the series and improving their ranking despite a slow start in the first innings.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto stated that all three departments underperformed, particularly in the field. He noted that the team’s intention and preparation were sound but that they needed to adjust their execution for the current conditions.

West Indies faced interruptions from rain and lightning during their chase. King was dropped on 70 by substitute fielder Ebadot Hossain off Taijul Islam but continued his knock. The second Test begins in Sylhet on November 5.
