A 29-year-old nanny in Orange County faces 10 felony counts of child abuse after a nanny cam recorded months of violence against an infant.
Iara Dossantos Bomfim allegedly struck and shook the baby between June 17 and July 11, 2026. The victim was two months and 10 days old when the footage began and was just over three months old when it ended.
The baby's mother discovered the abuse on July 11 after hearing her son scream. She entered the nursery and found Bomfim sitting on a yoga ball. The mother reviewed the footage and saw Bomfim bouncing the infant so his head and neck moved back and forth and side to side. The video also shows Bomfim punching the baby in the back of the head with a closed fist.
Bomfim told the mother everything was fine after the incident. She then fled to Brazil. She returned to the United States and was arrested on Friday. Prosecutors stated she was attempting to set up another account on Care.com to advertise her nanny services at the time of her arrest.
Bomfim has pleaded not guilty. She is currently being held on $500,000 bail. If convicted on all 10 counts, she faces a maximum sentence of 18 years in state prison.
