Ukraine’s ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets confirmed that a humanitarian convoy comprising 25 buses, ambulances, and other vehicles is staged in Armyansk. The mission is scheduled to begin later Friday. Armyansk is a town in Russian-occupied southern Ukraine located approximately 85 kilometers south of Oleshky.
Lubinets stated that the operation aims to deliver assistance to local residents. He emphasized that the primary goal is to ensure aid reaches every individual in need. The mission will prioritize support for the elderly and people with disabilities.
U.S. First Lady Melania Trump brokered the localized ceasefire and the aid mission. She led negotiations between Lubinets and his Russian counterpart, Yana Lantratova. The truce in and around the city has been observed since Tuesday.
Oleshky is situated just inside Russian-occupied territory in Ukraine's Kherson region. The town gained international attention after residents became stranded by heavy fighting and mined roads. Local populations reported running out of food and medicine.
Moscow and Kyiv continue to be fully engaged in the war elsewhere despite this truce. The conflict began with Russia’s full-scale invasion more than four and a half years ago. Previous ceasefire talks have often failed or resulted in truces that collapsed quickly.
