Former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Kamala Harris are both in Atlanta this week, a rare sequence of high-profile visits for Georgia Democrats during the final days of early voting.
Obama held a campaign event on Wednesday alongside Sen. Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms. Harris follows with a town hall hosted by NAACP President Derrick Johnson on Thursday and a fundraising dinner for Fulton County Democrats on Friday night.
The timing is tight. Early voting ends this Friday, and the general election is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026. National party leaders are focusing on Ossoff’s Senate seat, which Democrats view as essential for maintaining a narrow majority in the chamber. He faces U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, a candidate who has aligned closely with President Donald Trump.
In the race for governor, Keisha Lance Bottoms aims to become the first Black female governor in the United States. She is competing against Republican Rick Jackson for the seat currently held by Gov. Brian Kemp. Bottoms faces a substantial fundraising gap compared to her opponent.
To address that disparity, the Democratic Governors Association announced on Monday that it is adding $5 million to the race. That contribution brings the organization’s total investment in the Georgia governor’s race to $16 million.
