The New York Jets became the second NFL team since 2000 to lose a contest after scoring on their first six offensive drives. The team fell 38-33 to the Las Vegas Raiders at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, a result that extended their losing streak to three games.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, an All-Pro safety who has played eight games for New York, attributed the second-half defensive collapse to self-sabotage. After the final whistle, he cited bad penalties and bad mistakes before summarizing the situation with the phrase "Jets being Jets."

The Jets held a 30-21 lead with 8:26 remaining in the third quarter. They failed to score on three of the next four possessions, allowing the Raiders to take control. Las Vegas had lost four consecutive games prior to this contest, while Miami had lost its first five games of the season before beating New York last week.

Head coach Aaron Glenn aims to erase the long-standing narrative of inconsistent play, but his record stands at 20 wins and 25 losses. The Jets are 1-5 in one-score games this season, a record driven largely by mistakes in high-pressure situations.

A Jets spokesperson issued a clarification two hours after the game, stating that Fitzpatrick intended to say "Jets beating the Jets." The comment gained immediate traction on social media despite the correction.

The offense produced its best statistical output in years. Braelon Allen rushed for 147 yards, Adonai Mitchell caught passes for 142 yards, and quarterback Geno Smith completed for 290 yards. Garrett Wilson recorded six receptions for 83 yards. The team amassed a season-high 439 total yards but scored touchdowns on only two of six trips to the red zone.

Receiver Garrett Wilson described the need for precision in the red zone, comparing the required approach to that of a sniper. He stated that the team has one shot at the scene and must maintain that mentality.

The defense allowed 24 points in the second half, contributing to a total of 92 points surrendered over the last three games. Glenn, who oversees the defensive unit, admitted the group started hot early in the year but slowed down. Rookie defensive end David Bailey missed the game with a groin injury, limiting the pass rush to one sack.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins threw three touchdown passes for the Raiders, two of which went to tight end Brock Bowers. Bowers finished with seven catches for 92 yards. Running back Ashton Jeanty caught a 45-yard pass that set up the go-ahead field goal in the fourth quarter. Left tackle Olu Fashanu committed a false start during a loud moment for the home crowd.

Linebacker Demario Davis, who called the earlier win over Cleveland a turning point, described the current state as darkness from which the team must claw its way out. At 2-6, the Jets face an 11th consecutive losing season and their 16th straight year out of the playoffs. Smith, asked if a turnaround was close, looked at a wall clock and asked what time it was.
