South San Softball Captain Maintains 4.0 GPA While Preparing for College

San Antonio high schools field numerous student-athletes who juggle demanding schedules. KSAT 12 Sports and CHRISTUS Children’s have named Avannah Cuevas of South San High School as their Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Cuevas has played on the varsity softball team for four years and competes in travel softball. During her junior year, she earned First-Team All-District and Academic All-District honors. She currently maintains a 4.0 grade point average and ranks within the top ten percent of her graduating class.

Her academic record supports her athletic standing. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Council, the National Society of Leadership and Success, and the Soy Latina Leadership Mentor Program. She also completes community service through the Parent/Child Incorporated Head Start Program.

The senior plans to continue playing softball at the collegiate level. She intends to major in business. The selection recognizes her performance in both the classroom and on the field.
