Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan arrived in Kyiv on Monday, October 26, to conduct a working visit with Ukrainian leaders. The itinerary includes meetings with the country's top political figures and participation in an economic forum. His delegation includes three cabinet members: Vladimir Bolea, the infrastructure minister; Anatolie Nosatîi, the defence minister; and Dorin Junghietu, the energy minister.

Tofan is scheduled to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, and Ruslan Stefanchuk, the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada. These sessions form the core of the bilateral agenda outlined by the Moldovan government. Officials stated that the two prime ministers will focus on strengthening ties and expanding economic cooperation.

Regional security and the progress of both nations toward European Union membership are also on the discussion list. Tofan and Koretskyi will both attend the Kyiv International Economic Forum. The event centers on investment opportunities and the development of trade links between the two countries.

Energy policy has been a recent focus for both governments. On October 14, Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal met with Tofan to review shared sector challenges and winter preparations. Two days before that meeting, on October 12, Tofan announced that Moldova was considering buying natural gas from Ukraine to satisfy domestic demand. He confirmed he would raise the gas purchase issue during this current trip.

The visit follows earlier communications between the two sides. Moldovan media outlet Newsmaker cited a government statement to report the arrival. The statement detailed the specific topics reserved for the prime ministers' private discussions. These include methods to deepen bilateral relations beyond immediate trade agreements.

Separately, Moldovan President Maia Sandu indicated that her country is ready to receive more refugees from Ukraine. She stated this readiness in response to the severe humanitarian situation in neighboring regions. Sandu specified that Moldova would accept people if departures began due to those conditions. The prime minister's agenda in Kyiv does not currently list refugee flows as a primary talking point, though security remains a key theme.

The economic forum serves as a public component of the bilateral engagement. It allows both delegations to present joint positions on market access and investment. Tofan's presence alongside Koretskyi signals a coordinated approach to economic stability. The meetings are designed to finalize frameworks for ongoing cooperation.
