NPR Music has selected five albums released on October 30 for its weekly New Music Friday podcast. The selection includes Kaitlin Butts’ Hello, Honky Tonk on Republic Records, Sampa the Great’s Nu Zamrock on Loma Vista, and Kali Malone’s Burning Song on Ideologic Organ. The list also features Moses Boyd’s Songs For Sinners on Beggars and P***’s you made me / skin on linen on Sub Pop.
The podcast episode is hosted by Stephen Thompson and includes commentary from a network of public radio stations. This week, the show featured guests Jewly Hight from WPLN in Nashville, Matt Byars from WUOT in Knoxville, and Raina Douris, who hosts World Cafe at WXPN in Philadelphia. The program combines audio clips with contextual analysis to guide listeners through the new releases.
In addition to the main five picks, NPR Music staff recommended five other albums in a segment called the Lightning Round. These extra titles include 2nd Grade’s Girls & Boys on Lame-O, NØ MAN’s Between the Sword and the Neck on Iodine, and Takuya Nakamura’s Shape The Future on fabric. The remaining two recommendations are DIIV’s ZIRP! on Fantasy and Joyce Moreno’s Never Too Soon on Far Out.
The credits for the episode list Lars Gotrich as the host, with audio by Noah Caldwell and production by Elle Mannion. Dora Levite served as assistant producer, and Otis Hart handled editing. Suraya Mohamed is credited as executive producer, while Sonali Mehta is listed as the executive director. Listeners can access the discussion and associated playlists on the NPR App, Apple, Spotify, and other streaming platforms.
The New Music Friday series is part of the broader NPR Music podcast lineup. Each week, the team listens to dozens of new releases to identify specific tracks and albums for the broadcast. The show aims to provide a concise mix of clips and expert opinion for its audience.
