Walt Weiss of the Atlanta Braves has been named a finalist for the National League Manager of the Year Award. MLB Network announced the designation on Monday. The award committee also selected Don Mattingly of the Philadelphia Phillies and Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers as contenders.
Weiss took over the Braves helm after Brian Snitker retired. Snitker stepped down following a 76-win campaign in which Atlanta missed the postseason for the first time since 2017. Under Weiss, the team finished with 94 wins and secured its first NL East title since 2023.
The Braves entered the postseason as the No. 3 seed. They defeated the Phillies in two of three games at Truist Park during the Wild Card Series. Atlanta then lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a five-game National League Division Series. Murphy is seeking his third consecutive Manager of the Year honor.
The BBWAA will announce the Manager of the Year winner on Nov. 10. Chris Sale, who is also a finalist for the NL Cy Young Award, will learn his fate on Nov. 11. Sale is vying for his second such award.
Other National League finalists include Pete Crow-Armstrong, Shohei Ohtani, and Brice Turang for MVP. Jacob Misiorowski and Cristopher Sanchez join Sale in the Cy Young race. Carson Benge, Sal Stewart, and JJ Wetherholt compete for Rookie of the Year. In the American League, Yordan Alvarez, Junior Caminero, and Bobby Witt Jr. are the MVP finalists.
Dylan Cease, Parker Messick, and Cam Schlittler lead the AL Cy Young ballot. Bryan Baker, Cade Smith, and Louis Varland are the Reliever of the Year candidates. Kevin Cash, Chad Tracy, and Will Venable round out the AL Manager of the Year group.
