Alfonso Cuarón has completed the core ensemble for his upcoming Apple TV series, Ascension. The filmmaker added Amanda Plummer, Christopher Chung, and T'Nia Miller as series regulars. Apple has not yet released descriptions of the characters they will portray.
The three actors join an existing cast that includes Caitríona Balfe and Bill Nighy. Balfe will star as Rose, a recently divorced documentary filmmaker. According to the show's logline, Rose is skilled at exposing the truths of others but struggles with her own personal issues.
The narrative centers on Rose's investigation into a 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension. She initially finds comfort in the group's teachings before uncovering a darker reality beneath the surface. The story adapts Adam Nevill's novel, Last Days.
Cuarón is co-writing the series with his brother Carlos Cuarón. Natalie Erika James and Christian White also serve as writers. All four individuals hold executive producer credits. James and White will co-run the show, with James directing the lead episodes.
Production is led by Esperanto Filmoj, Cuarón's company, which maintains an overall deal with Apple. Gabriela Rodriguez and Richard Schwartz are executive producers for Esperanto. Anonymous Content, represented by Steve Golin, David Levine, and Zack Hayden, will produce the series with Apple Studios acting as the studio.
Plummer has appeared in the films Run and Butterfly Kiss. Chung is known for his work in Slow Horses and My Brilliant Career. Miller has previously acted in The Haunting of Bly Manor and VisionQuest.
