Walmart announced on Wednesday that its new holiday meal basket will cost $35, a price that equates to $3.50 per person for a group of 10. The kit is designed to serve a large gathering and is available for purchase in physical stores or online until December 24.

The company introduced the product against a backdrop of rising grocery costs. According to Federal Reserve data, the price of food bought at grocery stores for home consumption has increased by more than 30% since 2020. More recently, the CBS News Price Tracker showed that U.S. food prices rose 2.5% through September of this year. Walmart stated that internal survey data indicated consumers are actively seeking lower prices for holiday meals.

The basket contains 17 distinct products, totaling 26 individual items. The list includes a Butterball frozen whole turkey weighing between 10 and 16 pounds, which the company notes serves 7 to 11 people. Other components include fresh russet and sweet potatoes, cranberries, and a variety of canned goods such as corn, green beans, and cream of mushroom soup. Dessert ingredients feature pumpkin puree, pie crusts, and mini marshmallows.

Walmart said the current offering represents the lowest-priced one-click basket in the program's history. The retailer noted that this year's basket includes 18% more items than the previous year's version. Furthermore, the cost of these specific items is 12% lower than what customers paid for them in the prior holiday season.

The company is providing free express delivery for the meal basket through November 30. The kit combines items from national brands like Campbell's, JIFFY, and Jet-Puffed with Walmart's own Great Value line. Stove Top stuffing and frozen whipped topping are also part of the package.

Shoppers can order the bundle ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The inclusion of fresh produce, such as potatoes and cranberries, alongside frozen and canned goods, aims to cover the main course and sides in a single transaction. The turkey alone serves a large portion of the intended 10-person capacity.

The announcement follows a period of sustained inflation in the grocery sector. By pricing the kit at $35, Walmart is positioning the product as a budget-friendly option for households planning large dinners. The company has not announced plans for similar bundled offers for other major holidays at this time.
